get your feet wet:
online project management

If you’re looking for a way to streamline communications and manage a collaborative project more efficiently, I’ll set up an online project management system that will help your team track, schedule, discuss, revise and document a project.

You'll reduce email overload, keep up with document revisions more easily and have a centralized web space with all the materials, conversations and benchmarks related to a project.

What I provide:

  • set-up and customize a project management site
  • create user accounts for up to 10 collaborators, including permissions and delivery preferences for updates (email or RSS feed)
  • establish a consistent tagging and/or category structure for users
  • create centralized project references through social bookmarking, shared files and RSS feeds
  • a simple how-to sheet for using and maintaining the site
  • three phone calls about set-up, implementation and ongoing use

Depending on the nature of your project, we will select from services such as basecamp, 30boxes, zoho or google applications, or we'll put together a combination of services and create a project hub.

You can set any of this up yourself, but you'll benefit from our assessment of the strengths, weaknesses and particular features of each tool and our ability to contextualize them in terms of your needs.  We'll save you time by doing the groundwork.

Finally, this service includes strategies that make it easier for your team to adopt and make good use of these tools, without feeling overwhelmed by learning a new technology.  As with any new tool, there is always some learning curve; I work to flatten the curve as much as possible so you can focus on your project.

After working with us on the initial set-up, you'll be able to replicate this tool for future projects.

Cost: $2000
Turnaround: 5-7 business days
(each phone call is up to 1 hour)

To get started, email me a few sentences describing your work and the project goals.  Include any benchmarks, current references/resources and contact information for users that you'd like included in the project site.

Also provide some times you're available for the initial phone conversation to get the process going. (If you'd like to include other team members, we can make it a conference call.)

I'll send you an invoice, payable online or by check, and begin the work upon receipt of payment.

social media in translation

  • Social media describes a new set of internet tools that enable shared community experiences, both online and in person.

A community, in this context, is a group of people with common interests who connect with one another to learn, play, work, organize and socialize.  Communities can be large or small, local or global.  They can be public or restricted to members.

Social media tools make it easier for those of us with basic computer skills to create and distribute our stories and discuss the things we care about. They can also help us filter and organize the overwhelming amount of information on the web.
